DreadOut 2 is the next installment of a third-person horror game series, in which we follow the fate of a high school girl, learn about her problems and fight creatures from Asian folklore using a smartphone. The game is once again the responsibility of the Indonesian studio Digital Happiness. PlayThe action of the game takes place in a town, which is famous for its legends about ghosts and other supernatural powers. As Linda, struggling with typical teenage girl problems, we hunt down the creatures and send them back to where all the unwanted souls go with our phone. MechanicsDreadOut 2 features the same gameplay core as its predecessors, but this time the creators opted for more freedom in exploring the world. We observe the game from third-person perspective, and our character travels through the mysterious town at different times of day and night. On her way, the heroine encounters many human NPCs, who provide her with good advice, information about phantoms and ghosts, and side tasks to perform. DreadOut 2 it's mostly a survival horror, and the main weapon that our brave high school student has at her disposal is a phone with a built-in camera. By taking pictures we discover things invisible to the naked eye. Such hidden clues and information from the world of ghosts will enable us to solve puzzles. On the other hand, when the enemy is fully material our heroine is less defenseless, and can deal with the threat with the help of a melee weapon, e.g. a knife or an axe, landing blows on enemy's vital points. Technical aspectsThe DreadOut series is clearly inspired by the iconic survival horror game series Fatal Frame, which made its debut on Playstation 2. DreadOut 2 is an atmospheric game with three-dimensional graphics, powered by Unreal Engine, and the ambient/metal soundtrack and characteristic elements of Asian folklore give the game a specific atmosphere of horror.
