Scourge of War: Gettysburg is the work of NorbSoftDev, an independent studio founded by Norb Timpko, the creator of the Take Command cycle. The designer remained faithful to the theme of the American Civil War. The production is a development of ideas known from Take Command: Civil War Bull Run and Take Command: 2nd Manassas. As the title suggests, the historical background to Scourge of War: Gettysburg is the famous Battle of Gettysburg (1-3 July 1863), the outcome of which had a decisive influence on the fate of the Civil War. Players can play the role of commanders fighting on both sides of the conflict and try to repeat or change the course of events. The game offers 20 scenarios, both based on historical facts and alternative versions of events. The battles take place in real time on six carefully reconstructed maps, including five showing individual parts of the battlefield and one general map with an area of about 65 km2. The creators of Scourge of War: Gettysburg placed great emphasis on fidelity to historical realities. In the game appear the characters of all the most important commanders taking part in the battle. The troops and their equipment, as well as weather conditions were carefully mapped. There is also no shortage of authentic military actions, such as the Piquetta charge, the defense of Mc Pherson's Hills, the attack on the Cemetery Ridge or Chamberlain's famous infantry charge. However, the outcome of individual clashes does not have to be consistent with the facts, which allows for reinterpretation of history, especially in freeplay mode. Game mechanics allows you to control units at different levels from regiment to army depending on the scenario. Noteworthy are solutions such as a realistic system of reports from the battlefield, which are brought by the horse's messengers. For lovers of rivalry with living opponents we have prepared a fully functional, network multiplayer mode. Scourge of War: Gettysburg has an aesthetically pleasing three-dimensional graphic design. The creators of the game decided to use cel-shading technology, thanks to which the unit models and the battlefield have a bit of a comic character.
