Game description:
An extremely simple idea for an arcade game, which Taito transformed into a product called Qix, found many followers (e.g. Styx). However, it was no one else, but it was the Japanese programmers who developed a program that really revolutionized the idea of the original. This is the first coin-op game Volfied published on slot machines. Just like in Qix, in Volfied our task is to fill a rectangular field with figures of various sizes, which we create by drawing horizontal or vertical lines. In order to complete each step successfully, you need to get rid of 80% of the area (the number at the bottom of the screen indicates the current progress). Of course, while performing the task you should avoid contact with enemies moving within the board. Unlike Qix, there are more of the latter in Volfied there are always so-called "bosses" and a few smaller units. Another thing that distinguishes both programs from each other are the different bonuses included in Volfied to make the struggle easier. In order to use them you have to close one of the square blocks, which can be found on each board in several copies. The bonus is awarded randomly, such as movement acceleration or a laser cannon to exterminate smaller enemies. Despite these improvements, the game is much harder than Qix and you have to sweat a lot and be lucky enough to get through even the first few stages of the march. Compared to the original published two years earlier (Qix made his debut on PeCet only in 1989), the visual setting improved significantly. Volfied looks almost identical to its "automatic" counterpart and boasts a variety of opponents' silhouettes and colourful backgrounds.
