Combat Pilot for PC is a MMO air combat expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The add-on was developed by Thunderhawk, a studio affiliated with Mad Catz, a popular manufacturer of gaming equipment. MechanicsThe add-on enables us to take control of one of fifty combat airplanes and engage in online battles with other players. The authors have decided to focus on realism ? all machines were recreated with due piety, with their handling and controls almost identical to the real life counterparts. Combat Pilot is a team-based title ? to win, players have to work together in order to achieve their goals and defeat the enemy team. The authors introduced an extensive training mode that makes it easier for the beginner players to enter the world of the game, while more advanced players can focus on rising through the further steps of their military careers. Technical AspectsThe expansion uses Microsoft Flight Simulator X as a base, yet Combat Pilot is not a simple add-on. The authors have introduced a number of new features to the already-complex FSX engine, including dedicated servers, AI-controlled air control towers, or advanced radio communication.
