Take No Prisoners is a postapocalyptic brutal top-down shooting, in which we try to save humanity from extinction as a result of radiation. American studio Raven Software is responsible for the creation of the game, known mainly because of two Doom's fantasy clones, i.e. Hexen and Heretic. The action of the game takes us into a distant future, to the city of San Antonio, Texas or rather, what was left of it after the nuclear explosion. Only a special protective dome, whose construction is undertaken by a corporation, can save mankind from the harmful effects of radiation. In order to do this, however, it is necessary to recover a special matrix, which is located in a mysterious tower in the very centre of the city. Players play the role of a mercenary named Slade one of the few people who survived the explosion. His task will be to get through further districts of San Antonio and regain a valuable device. If he fails to do so, he will die within six months just like everything that lives outside the dome. In the course of the game we visit 20 more districts of the city, controlled by different groups, each of which has a leader acting as a mini-boss. The action of the game is non-linear and our protagonist can use various means of transport, such as ATVs, hovercrafts and boats. There is a large arsenal, which consists of more than 20 types of weapons (laser sword, rifles, rifles, throwers, crossbowshows, kinetic weapons) and the same number of useful gadgets (Molotov cocktails, grenades, mines, explosives, antigravitational devices). As the game progresses, we obtain various items from the bodies of killed enemies, as well as the data needed to break the security codes and achieve the final goal. All this information is stored in a special electronic notebook, which is included in the hero's equipment. The world of Take No Prisoners was made in three dimensions, but the action is observed in the view from above like in classic, two-dimensional shooters like Alien Breed. The game makes use of modern 3D accelerators, and has been enriched with a large dose of brutality and hectolitres of gushing blood. In addition to the considerable length of the campaign designed for a single player, the authors also prepared as many as 6 different multiplayer modes. Among them we can find both the typical ones ("everyone at all" rivalry, team fights, taking over the crystal), as well as quite original ones, in which we have to kill only one selected opponent or defeat six rivals with different types of weapons.
