Game description:
Developed by Chunsoft and Matrix Software, the game is a two-dimensional action jRPG and a spin-off of the popular Dragon Quest series. The game employs well-known character models used in the aformentioned franchise and uses a gameplay formula typical of roguelike games. StoryTorneko, a wandering trader, has been living in happiness since he came into possession of the magic box of joy. Unexpectedly, the peace of the village where he lives with his family is disturbed by monsters appearing in increasing numbers. Desperate, the realm's king asks Torneko for help. He goes to the dungeons to find the reason for the increased activity of the monsters and to ensure peace and safety for his loved ones and friends. The plot presented in the game continues the threads presented in Mystery Dungeon a game released in 1993 on Super Nintendo. MechanicsThe title is a typical action RPG, using a formula proven in dozens of roguelike titles. Gamers control the title hero as they explore subsequent randomly generated areas, collecting valuable items and defeating enemies. The battles are fought in a specific system, in which each movement or attack of a character also means one action from all other creatures on the screen. This necessitates appropriate planning to avoid, for example, getting encircled by the overwhelming enemy forces. For subsequent victories, experience points are gained, which translates into improved hero statistics, such as vitality or strength. Torneko: The Last Hope is characterized by high level of difficulty. Technical aspectsTorneko: The Last Hope uses simple, colorful 2D visuls, in which the characters are presented as sprites.
