Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is another game by the independent Russian studio Owlcat Games, founded by former employees of Nival Interactive (Silent Storm, Heroes of Might and Magic V) and My.com (Armored Warfare). We are dealing with an indirect continuation of Pathfinder: Kingmaker, a classic isometric RPG based on the pen&paper RPG system Pathfinder which is a modified version of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5. Once again, the devs were assisted in the development by the legendary veteran of the industry, Chris Avellone, the creator of Planescape Torment and Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords. PlotPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous does not directly continue the story of Owlcat Games' debut project. This time as a group of daredevils we travel through the new, darker region of Golarion, visiting, among others, the demon-infested wilderness, the besieged city of crusaders and the dangerous abyss. The story focuses on the struggle between good (humans and angels) and evil (Lord Deskari's demonic minions). MechanicsThe action of the game was shown similarly to Pathfinder: Kingmaker in isometric view. It is a classic team RPG, in which we explore atmospheric locations, fight opponents in real time using active pauses and complete the main story quest and side missions, gaining experience points needed for character progression. The game is also full of moral choices, which have a large impact on the rest of the game. In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous there are new characters, classes (Witch and Oracle), archetypes and races, but in addition to that there are also new characters from the previous installment. One of the novelties is the mythic progression system borrowed from the pen&paper RPG of the same subtitle, which gives access to extremely strong abilities. They have a significant influence on the course of the plot, permanently changing the characters and the environment around them. During the game we can follow the path of the immortal count commanding an army of the undead, an angel summoning heavenly allies on the battlefield or a trickster dancing joyfully even in the middle of an abyss filled with demons. Each of them has been significantly changed compared to card game solutions and has been adapted to better suit a video game. There are also strategic elements in the game, but the new system, unlike the management of the kingdom from the previous installment, gained additional depth and was better adapted to the gameplay and fit into the story of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Technical aspectsPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is based on heavily modified Unity engine, known from the previous part of the series.
