Caribbean Legend is an RPG game developed by the Russian team BlackMark Studio. Although the developers position it as a completely new game, we are in fact dealing with an informal refresh of the developer's previous project Sea Dogs: To Each His Own. PlotCaribbean Legend takes us to the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy. The game's story begins in 1654 in Martinique, where French nobleman Charles de Maure arrives after receiving a letter from his brother. It turns out that the unlucky man got into trouble and due to the gigantic debt he carries, he ended up behind bars. To enable him to get out of prison, Charles decides to collect the required amount of gold for him. The way in which this is accomplished depends on our actions and the choices we make. MechanicsIn Caribbean Legend, we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game provides us with a vast open world containing several dozen islands, where we can find cities and settlements, as well as jungles hiding numerous secrets, full of caves, pyramids and lost cities built by natives. Traveling through the Caribbean, we meet many characters and carry out various tasks, as well as engage in risky ventures, such as solving the puzzles of this corner of the world and treasure hunting. In between great adventures, we can visit taverns, try our luck at gambling, and indulge in other pleasures typical of the pirate era. The way Charles collects the necessary gold to free his brother depends on our individual preferences. We can become a famous pirate whose infamy will make sailors all over the Caribbean tremble, we can devote ourselves to trade, or we can get involved in politics and try to become a governor. We move between the islands on board our ship. Although we start the game with a small and simple boat, over time we gather resources that allow us to acquire larger, more powerful and more advanced units, such as frigates, corvettes or battleships. We can even command an entire fleet that will rule the Caribbean. The game allows us not only to repair and upgrade our ships, but also to modify their appearance as we see fit. As befits a pirate game, there is no shortage of sea battles here. During sea battles, we must maneuver the ship efficiently and fire accurately, paying attention to, among other things, the direction of the wind and the range of our cannons. We can use various types of ammunition, designed for specific tasks (from standard, through chain and grapeshot, to bombs). After immobilizing the enemy unit, we can board it. The game allows to choose between getting rid of the rest of the crew to claim the ship, or simply sending the ship to the bottom of the ocean. When at sea, we can also attack forts. Dangers also await us on land. We face opponents, among whom we find both hostile people and fantasy creatures like animated skeletons, making use of a wide range of melee weapons (such as swords, axes, rapiers) and firearms (muskets, pistols). As we progress, we develop our character and unlock new skills, as well as improve the ones we already have. Our combat potential also increases through better equipment that we buy, find or produce ourselves. The gear upgrades are available for both weapons and armor elements. We can't forget about our crew and their morale, otherwise we may face mutinies and other problems. Caribbean Legend: SandboxShortly before the premiere of the main title, a separate free game, Caribbean Legend: Sandbox, was released to players. The production allows us to play the role of three playable characters (a French aristocrat, a Spanish mercenary and an English entrepreneur) who come to the Caribbean to make a fortune. It depends on us how they will do it. Compared to Caribbean Legend, the free game is primarily distinguished by randomly generated quests, which are designed to provide endless fun.
