Out of Reach for PC is a first-person MMO game with RPG elements, representing the popular genre of sandbox survival simulators. Studio Space Boat is behind this production, which has been developed thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The authors decided not to emphasize the plot, instead concentrating their efforts on the gameplay that combines the best features of the games from this genre released so far. The player assumes the role of a survivor who gets cast away on one of the islands of an unknown archipelago. What happens later depends only on our decisions. GameplayAs in most similar games, one of the most important aspect of the gameplay is survival. As a castaway who has nothing, we need to wisely choose a place that will be our new home, and then take care of the basic needs, such as food or clothing. While exploring the open world filled with meadows, deserts, forests and caves, we come across many species of wild animals that can serve as food. But that's not all. We need to constantly search for raw materials such as wood, stone or linen. By using a special workshop, we can create basic tools, weapons, armor and other items. Interestingly, in the course of the game we can also upgrade them, which affects significantly the parameters of the objects themselves, as well as the characters who wear them. The crafting system was implemented in a very accessible form, so it is equally easy to create simple objects and powerful fortresses, which will be used to defend us against potential enemies. A completely new feature is the ability to construct powerful siege engines, such as trebuchets, ballistas and battering rams. We can control them ourselves, using them to defend the area we live in or to attack an enemy encampment. The main idea of the authors was to create a huge, ever-changing world in which thousands of players live simultaneously connected by a common goal. It?s up to the players, however, if they want to act alone or in cooperation with other survivors; build a community seeking allies or attack fortresses of other players. The players also decide how they will shape the abilities of their characters. The character development system used in the game is modeled on RPG productions. How adept we?ll become, e.g. in obtaining raw materials, hunting or killing depends on our determination and the time spent on a particular skill. Developing a character in a particular direction will allow us to use completely new skills over time, both active (e.g. "charge" that allows us to completely change the style of combat) and passive (e.g. "trapper" ? which will increase our ability to move around the wilderness). TechnologyAlthough the game uses the popular and relatively simple Unity engine, the developers managed to achieve a high level of graphics. The game world is evocative, detailed and truly life-like, and everything is more enjoyable thanks to a polished and exceptionally intuitive user interface. Unlike many similar productions, distributed in the free-to-play system, Out of Reach for PC is a fully commercial game. Once we purchase it, we can play without restrictions or extra fees.
