Heroes of Normandie is a turn-based strategy game set during the World War II, and an adaptation of a 2014 board game released under the same title. The game is characterized by somewhat sophisticated set of rules, dynamic gameplay, and a light, humorous mood. It was developed by Cat Rabbit with the support of Slitherine Strategies, a developer studio specializing in all kinds of niche strategy games. The action takes place right after the D-Day, the Allied landing in Normandy in 1944. The player can take command of one of the three playable armies: American, British, or German. Each of them has a vast arsenal of distinctive units and equipment as well as unique special abilities (represented by cards). Apart from that, each side of the conflict has a separate campaign story, in which the main roles are played by the eponymous heroes, such as the German field marshal von Kamptz, or The Rock, a machine gun loving US trooper. The developers have also prepared some quick battles and special mini-scenarios for the Rogue mode that offers higher difficulty level. The players can also compete against human opponents. Heroes of Normandie comes with a map editor that allows us to create our own battlefields and armies, and share them with the rest of the gaming community. The visuals in Heroes of Normandie are simple; they consist mostly of elements taken from the original board game transformed into quasi 3D and enhanced with simple animations and special effects.
