The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime is a science fiction-based first-person adventure game and a complete remake of The Journeyman Project, released in 1992. Both versions of the game were developed by Presto Studios, which, seven years after the release of the original, decided to offer players a new version of its debut production, adapted to modern standards and free of technical problems, which are one of the biggest drawbacks of the original. This title was originally published in June 1997, exclusively on Macintosh. The PC version of the game appeared on the market only seventeen years later and was distributed on DVDs or in digital form via GOG.com. PlotThe plot of The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime is a faithful recreation of the story shown in the original from 1992. The whole story was set in the XXIV century and built around the possibility of time travel, made possible by the titular Journeyman project and a time machine called Pegasus. In the game, we play as Agent 5, who in contrast to the original game has received a true identity of Gage Blackwood. Our protagonist represents the TSA (Temporal Security Annex) and the must use the time machine to move into the past and thwart the actions of the three androids sent there to change the course of history. MechanicsThe Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime is faithful to the vision of the original released five years earlier. We observe the action from the first-person perspective, and we mainly deal with exploration, collecting evidence and objects, and solving logical puzzles, thanks to which we move the story forward. If you don't count the partially improved puzzle mechanics, one of the biggest novelties of the game is the use of the model of movement known from the second part of the series, The Journeyman Project 2: Buried in Time, published in 1995. Unlike the original, in which we moved in a jumping way, resembling dungeon crawlers, the new version of the game has a new and fluent model of movement. As a result, the static locations of the original were enriched with movement animations, which were much more in line with modern standards of video games. Technical aspectsCompared to the original published in 1992, the main changes in The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime were about improving the audio-visuals using an original engine called Pegasus Engine. Although the game interface remained virtually unchanged and the action window is still only a part of the screen's space, the quality and smoothness of the animation and the soundtrack of the title have clearly improved. One of the key novelties in the game is the above mentioned possibility of smooth movement of the protagonist, as well as the newly filmed FMV (full-motion video) scenes featuring some actors know from the second part of the series released in 1997.
