Polychromatic is a minimalist, arcade shooter released on PC and XONE, belonging to the so-called twin-stick shooters genre. The game was created by an independent studio Brushfire, whose core consists of brothers Nick and Joe Gravelyn. They have made a pretty successful debut with Shipwreck, a two-dimensional adventure game inspired by legendary Zelda. MechanicsThe mechanics of Polychromatic gameplay is extremely simple and boils down to the efficient elimination of successive waves of enemies. The battle arena is a large circle, within which we can move freely in all directions, shooting independently in any direction. During the game we are constantly being attacked by more or less numerous groups of opponents. Due to the game's minimalistic concept, we are not dealing here with any specific creatures, but groups of geometric figures of different shapes and colors (which is also suggested by the game's title). The gameplay takes place at a rather fast pace and due to the control model, it works best when playing with a gamepad. Game modesPolychromatic only allows you to play in a single player mode. However, the authors have prepared several variants of the game, and the competition element is provided by online statistics and rankings, based on the Steam abXbox Live services. Technical aspectsPolychromatic's graphic design on the PC and XONE platforms is minimalist and may evoke associations with classic 2D shooters like Asteroids. The main difference, however, lies in the ability to move and shoot in any direction. The game takes place on a grey, static background filled with various objects of different colors "raging" on the screen.
