Game description:
Going Medieval is an independent strategy game in which we build and supervise a medieval village. It is necessary both to plan the development and to take care of the needs and well-being of residents. Foxy Voxel studio is responsible for developing and releasing this title, and this is his debut project. PlotThe action of the game takes place in an alternative version of the 14th century A.D., in Europe, right after the Black Death pandemic (now believed to be a plague), which, according to historians' estimates, killed 30-60% of the population living on the continent. In Going Medieval, this plague was even more devastating and led to the almost complete extinction of humanity (95% mortality). The player takes on the role of the leader of a small community, who is trying to restore civilization in the region after this tragedy starting with a single village. MechanicsIn Going Medieval, our task is to build a village on the ruins of a former civilization in areas that is now almost wild. At the same time, we play the hero, which we create at the very beginning of the game (it is possible to customize its appearance and gender). During the game, we are responsible for the selection, location and shape of buildings. We also take care of the various needs of our residents, such as food, sleep, comfort and safety. People in our village have their own stories and plans we can get to know them better by observing them. There are also different factions that differ in goals and ideologies (e.g. the royalists of the Faithful Sons of England or consisting of believers in Arthurian legends The Circle of Avalon). Apart from weather phenomena and nature, we must also take into account the threat from other people there is no shortage of bandits in the region (including cannibals members of The Progeny of the Plague group). We train warriors, build walls, and also towers where we place archers. As the game progresses, we gain access to more advanced structures and capabilities (e.g. to the castles'). We can also shape the terrain, creating cave complexes that can be used for various purposes. We also need to increase the population so that our village can grow. To do this, we can accept outsiders and help people in a variety of situations they will be grateful to us and may decide to live in our settlement. Achieving success also requires managing human capital we must assign responsibilities to individual residents, making sure that they match their individual qualities. Game modesIn Going Medieval, we can only play alone. The basis of the game is the single player mode. Technical aspectsGoing Medieval has an original, three-dimensional graphic design, which uses the voxels this allows the player to interfere with the game environment (e.g. landscaping). The production has a rather interesting, simplified artistic style and has a fairy-tale atmosphere (mainly due to the use of very vivid colours and expressive lighting). The impressive weather system also makes a great impression. Last updated on 06 June 2023
