Hexoplanet is an economic strategy game about cute robots preparing a new planet for human colonisation. The game was developed by an independent developer from Germany, Max Gittel, who started creating it as a hobby and eventually developed the project into a commercial product. PlotAs with most economic strategies, the story does not play the most important role in Hexoplanet. All we know is that robots were sent to a new planet by humans to make it habitable. More recently, they have gained self-awareness, intended to do their job better. In the long run, however, they develop the ability to question certain facts, such as being someone else's property with no freedom. MechanicsThe gameplay model in Hexoplanet brings to mind the one known at least from Factorio. Observing the available terrain from above, we travel through it with robots in real time, gathering resources and choosing where to place the next buildings of our base. To continually increase the efficiency of the infrastructure, we construct special machines and factories. These increase the number of our robots or create products needed for human survival in these conditions. Completing construction or recruitment requires a certain amount of time and robots, so we must carefully plan each next step otherwise our development will stop due to lack of available resources or machines. There are also ways to increase the efficiency of buildings and robots. Regardless of the ongoing manufacturing, we can organize special research and develop new schemes, giving access to the creation of completely new objects. While managing the base, we should follow one rule: our actions must contribute to the continuous increase of the machines' efficiency and to make the planet habitable. The available area has been divided into several biomes (forest, desert, snow, etc.). Each stands out both stylistically, as well as by the type and amount of available resources or the possibility to build special buildings, such as mines or shipyards. Technical aspectsHexoplanet stands out with its very colourful graphic design and an unusual trick consisting in giving many objects a hexagonal shape.
