Joan Jade and the Gates of Xibalba, released on PC, iOS and NDS, was developed by Artifex Mundi. Inspired by Indiana Jones' movie adventures and the Tomb Raider series, the creators prepared a logical adventure game starring a brave archaeologist in the lead role. PlotJoan Jade and the Gates of Xibalba is set in South America, where the title character sets off in search of her children. Emily and Jim were supposed to be volunteers on archaeological excavations, but they did not reach the site. Joan discovers that their disappearance is linked to an ancient Mayan temple and a group of dangerous criminals. MechanicsThe player's task is to help the main heroine to break through the inhospitable jungle, solve the riddles of ancient civilization and thwart the plans of bandits. The creators of the game have prepared over 80 puzzles, 240 hidden objects to find and a number of mini-games to diversify the gameplay. During the game, players have the opportunity to visit 30 locations depicting, among other things, the interior of a Mayan temple full of secrets and traps. Technical aspectsTwo-dimensional graphic design of Joan Jade and the Gates of Xibalba is maintained in a comic book style, and the plot of the game is told through a dozen of climatic cut-scenes.
