Neyyah is a point & click adventure with gameplay presented from a first-person perspective. This game was born from the idea of independent creator Aaron Gwynaire, who, together with Nanci Nott, co-founded the Australian company Defy Reality Entertainment. Neyyah is the studio's first project, strongly reflecting the style of the iconic Myst series. Its sequel, Riven, turned out to be a great inspiration for Gwynaire. The game was published with the support of MicroProse, a company primarily associated with strategy games and flight simulators. PlotThe game begins with an unusual dream, which launches extraordinary events in the life of the main character. Right after waking up, our character ends up in a place called Olujay, where a mysterious Vamir is waiting for our arrival. The man only gives us bits of information, then sends us on a mission to help save his people. Moments later we land in Neyyah an archipelago of islands between which you can travel using special portals. MechanicsThis title represents classic point & click adventure games, the main idea of which is to explore a vast world and solve a number of often complex puzzles. We observe the world of Neyyah from the first-person perspective, traversing static locations filled with various environmental puzzles that require perceptiveness and the ability to combine collected information. To unlock further locations, the items collected along the way, which the hero keeps in his inventory, also prove to be necessary. Technical aspectsNeyyah's visuals highly reflect the retro style of adventure games like Myst. The locations presented in the game are highly-detailed, and their color scheme is soft and pleasing to the eye. The experience is enriched by the atmospheric soundtrack. Although the gameplay remains largely static, animations are present in the game.
